Our privacy promise in plain English
Voki creates personalized stories using fictional, generic attributes you provide (like a character's hair color or favorite animal). Here is what we commit to:
- We never store your child's real name, photo, location, or any personally identifiable information (PII).
- We never sell, share, or rent any data to advertisers or third parties for marketing.
- We never show ads — not to children, not to parents, ever.
- We never track children across other apps or websites.
- Story content is generated on-device and in our servers purely to create the story — it is not retained or profiled.
- All data we do hold is generic and non-identifiable: hair color, age range, story theme, language preference.

2. What Data We Collect — and What We Don't
Voki is built around generic, fictional story attributes. We do not require any real personal details to use the app.
Generic story-creation inputs (stored per story)
These are the fictional character attributes you choose when building a story. They are creative inputs, not personal data:

What we never collect
- Real full names, government IDs, or official identifiers of any kind
- Photographs, camera access, or biometric data
- Location data (GPS, IP-based, or otherwise)
- Contacts or address book access
- Device microphone recordings (voice input is processed locally and discarded immediately)
- Health or medical information
- Financial information beyond what Apple handles for subscription billing
- Behavioral tracking data for advertising
Technical / account data (minimal)
To sync your story library across your Apple devices, we use iCloud. We store a pseudonymous Apple User ID (a random opaque string provided by Apple — not your email or name) to associate your library records. We never have access to your Apple ID credentials or personal Apple account information.
3. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
Voki is designed for children and their families. We take children's privacy exceptionally seriously and comply with:
- The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States
- The GDPR and UK GDPR provisions for data subjects under 16
- Apple's Kids Category guidelines
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Because Voki only collects generic, fictional story inputs (not PII), no special consent is required for normal app use.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information about your child, please contact us immediately at info@voki.family and we will delete it promptly.
4. How We Use Data
The generic story-creation inputs you provide are used solely to:
- Generate the story text via AI (sent to our secure AI provider's API and not retained)
- Generate the cover illustration via AI (same conditions — not retained by the provider)
- Generate the narration audio via AI text-to-speech (not retained beyond delivery)
- Save the finished story to your personal iCloud-linked library
We do not use your data to build user profiles, to serve targeted advertising, or for any purpose other than delivering the story you requested.
5. Third-Party Services
Voki uses the following third-party services to operate. Each is subject to its own privacy policy:

None of these providers receive personally identifiable information about you or your child through Voki's normal operation. Story generation prompts contain only generic fictional attributes.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
Story records and associated generic attributes are retained in your iCloud library for as long as you keep them. You can delete individual stories or your entire library at any time from within the app.
If you delete your app and associated iCloud data, all story records are permanently removed. We do not keep backups of your personal library on our own servers.
To request deletion of any data we hold associated with your pseudonymous account, email info@voki.family. We will process your request within 30 days.
7. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including:
- HTTPS / TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Apple CloudKit encryption for data at rest
- API keys stored securely, never exposed to the client
- No passwords stored — authentication handled entirely by Apple Sign-In
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Withdraw consent at any time (where consent is the legal basis)
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via an in-app message. Continued use of Voki after a change constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
